Sledging and the Armadillo Walk

Trying something new to see if I can keep on a better fitness pace. Going to blog any and all fitness-related data.

Yeah, I know, I used blog as a verb… I’m still getting used to this.

Sledged for 20 minutes this morning, no good data — I decided to do the heart rate monitor stuff late. I’ll have more tomorrow.

Walked to and from the Armadillo Willy’s at Blossom Hill and Santa Teresa. It’s 2.6 miles each way, and I covered it in about 45 minutes each leg for an average speed of almost 3.5 mph.

My heart rate monitor has my average at about 135bpm. I have to do a little research to figure out my resting and max heart rates to see if that’s any good or not.

Last week I walked out to lunch and decided to just push myself and kept walking… I ended up walking for 7 miles, and my feet were sore like crazy. I wore an older pair of Ecco dress/casuals, so I probably had all the wrong support and cushioning.

This time, the total walk was 5.2 miles, so about two and a half a stretch. So far, my feet feel ok after walking that far, I wore an older pair of Merrell running shoes, but I wore socks that were too thin and loose so I may have a slight blister on my left foot. It’s good I didn’t go too much further.

Weather was a bit breezy and not too hot. I think it’s supposed to rain some this week, but we’ll see if I can get some walking in anyway. Today was an all-around good day for walking though not the exact time. I had to blow past a few crowds of students walking home from the nearby middle and high schools. I hate it when the dang kids are taller than me. And they were all doing the loping “I’m too cool to walk normally” swagger.

I got hooted at twice by girls in cars. I’m sure both times were jokes, but I smiled back anyway. It dawned on me later that they were probably high schoolers… and high school kids these days were probably born after 1990. Oh man.

I passed the Shamrock Mixed Martial Arts school which apparently has a training center on Blossom Hill near Almaden that I’d never seen. Founded by (of course) Frank Shamrock, professional fighter. I got a “don’t go there” recommendation from a trusted friend, though, so I just kept walking. It’s also in a plaza with a Florentine pasta house that always seems to have cars in front of it no matter what time of day or night. I’m sure it’s a front for drugs or human trafficking or something.
